Dinesh Patel, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Patel has been a Massachusetts General Hospital faculty member since graduating from Boston-based Harvard Medical School in 1971. While serving as the hospital's arthroscopic surgery chief, he showed arthroscopic technology can improve safety and quality and decrease postoperative recovery time to reduce costs.
MGH named its arthroscopic learning laboratory after Dr. Patel, who has trained surgeons worldwide, with special efforts in developing nations.
A founding member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the International Association of Arthroscopy, Dr. Patel has served as the Board of Registration in Medicine's chairman. He is a past Federation of State Medical Board director and Strategic Planning and Executive Committee member. The federation honored him in 2003 with the John H. Clark, MD Leadership Award.
Also in 2003, former President George W. Bush's Administration named him the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation commissioner.
Dr. Patel earned his medical degree at Gujarat University Medical College in Ahmedabad, India. At Harvard Medical School, Dr. Patel completed an orthopedic surgery residency.
