Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Gregory Drake of Core Orthopedics

Gregory Drake, DO, is an orthopedic surgeon at Elk Grove Village, Ill.-based Core Orthopedics. He joined the practice in 2009.

Dr. Drake performs complex spine and shoulder surgeries and frequently manages common orthopedic conditions, including sports injuries and fracture care.

He performed more than 700 cases in 2017, including 300 shoulder replacements and 400 sports-related and degenerative arthroscopic shoulder procedures.

The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons society awarded Dr. Drake its prestigious Neer Award.

With several publications and book chapters to his name, he has published research in major journals such as The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgeons, The Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, The Journal of Arthroplasty and Techniques of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

Dr. Drake graduated from Kansas City (Mo.) University of Medicine and Biosciences. He completed an internship and residency at Farmington Hills, Mich.-based Botsford Hospital, where he served as chief resident.

Dr. Drake is dual-fellowship trained in shoulder and elbow surgery and adult spinal reconstructive surgery. He completed his first fellowship through Southfield-based Michigan Spine and Brain Surgeons and a second fellowship at Houston-based Fondren Orthopedic Group.
