Retired orthopedic surgeon John A. Ungersma, MD, stepped down from Bishop, Calif.-based Northern Inyo Healthcare District's board of directors, effective July 19, Sierra Wave Media reports.
1. Dr. Ungersma served on the NIHD board of directors for 18 years. He represented NIHD's Zone 1 area.
2. Dr. Ungersma is a veteran with a military career spanning 48 years, including 21 years of active duty and 27 years in active reserve for the Marine Corps as well as the U.S. Navy.
3. He was the first orthopedic surgeon to establish a practice in Bishop.
4. The NIHD board will begin the search for a new Zone 1 representative. The new representative will hold office until the next general election or November 2020 when Dr. Ungersma's current term expires.
