NorthShore University Health System appoints 1st Mark R. Neaman Family Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery: 5 things to know about Dr. Jason Koh

Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University Health System appointed orthopedic surgeon Jason Koh, MD, as the inaugural Mark R. Neaman Family Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

The chair was established after a $1 million legacy gift from Mark and Susan Neaman, who reside in Lake Forest, Ill., to recognize NorthShore's "exceptional" orthopedic care and vision to offer advanced orthopedic services across the Chicago region. Mr. Neaman spent 26 years as president and CEO of NorthShore, and more than four decades with the health system.

Here are five things to know about Dr. Koh:

1. Dr. Koh joined NorthShore in 2009 as the chair of the orthopedic surgery department and director of the NorthShore Orthopaedic Institute. He is also a clinical professor of surgery at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.

2. In addition to achieving a reputation for clinical care, Dr. Koh is known for research into tissue repair and regeneration for shoulder conditions and sports medicine applications. He spent time as a team physician for the Chicago Fire Major League Soccer team and an orthopedic consultant for the Chicago Cubs.

3. Throughout his career, Dr. Koh has authored 70 published papers and 17 book chapters.

4. Dr. Koh is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. He was also president of the Illinois Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons from 2008-09.

5. Dr. Koh earned his medical degree at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his residency in New York City at Hospital for Special Surgery. His additional training includes a fellowship with Cleveland Clinic.
