Newport Beach, Calif.-based orthopedic surgeon Grant Robicheaux, MD, and his girlfriend have been accused of drugging and raping multiple women, according to a Los Angeles Times report.
Here are five things to know:
1. Dr. Robicheaux and his girlfriend have been accused of meeting women on two separate occasions and sexually assaulting them after the women became intoxicated or inebriated. Authorities first investigated the couple in October 2016 when a neighbor called the police after hearing a woman scream for help.
2. In January, detectives searched Dr. Robicheaux's home and found illegal drugs, including gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, MDMA and cocaine, as well as at least two unregistered assault rifles. Detectives also report finding videos and photographs of other victims on his and his girlfriend's phones.
3. The investigation was turned over to prosecutors in September, and charges were filed Sept. 11. Dr. Rabicheaux and his girlfriend were arrested earlier this month. They now face felony counts of rape by drugs, oral copulation by anesthesia and assault with intent to commit sexual offenses, according to the report. Both are free on bail, which was set at $100,000 each.
4. The California medical board is investigating Dr. Robicheaux's behavior.
5. In 2013, Orange Coast Magazine named Dr. Robicheaux "Orange County's Most Eligible Bachelor" and in 2014, he appeared on the Bravo television show "Online Dating Rituals of the American Male," which showcased his attempts to find a girlfriend.
