Eric W. Carson, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville.
With expertise in shoulder surgery and sports medicine, Dr. Carson serves as a team physician for University of Virginia Athletics as well as U.S. Rowing.
Dr. Carson has a particular interest in sports injuries, biomechanics and cartilage research. He has authored various articles published on revision anterior cruciate ligament surgery and multidirectional shoulder instability, among other topics.
Previously, Dr. Carson was an associate orthopedic surgeon for the New York Giants as well as medical clinical director of University of Virginia's McCue Sports Medicine Center in Charlottesville.
Dr. Carson is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Association of North America.
After earning his medical degree from Chicago-based University of Illinois College of Medicine, Dr. Carson completed his residency at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. He then underwent fellowship training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at New York City-based Weill Cornell Medical College at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
