Orthopedic surgeon Juan J. Rodrigo, MD, 75, passed away Oct. 13, the Waco Tribune-Herald reports.
Dr. Rodrigo's orthopedic surgery career spanned 50 years. He received his medical degree from UC San Francisco School of Medicine before joining the U.S. Army as a Special Forces physician in Fort Devens, Mass.
He later served as a surgery professor at UCSF and UC San Diego. Dr. Rodrigo was the team physician for the Sacramento Kings and Sacramento River Cats.
He opened Steadman Hawkins of the Carolinas in Spartanburg, S.C., and started a total joint program at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, Texas.
