48% of orthopedic surgeons are not satisfied with their compensation

Public health and preventative medicine physicians feel the most fairly compensated on average, according to Medscape's Physician Compensation Report 2019.

Dermatology is among the top-ranking specialties regarding compensation satisfaction for the sixth consecutive year. However, 52 percent of orthopedic surgeons reported satisfaction with their compensation, meaning 48 percent are not satisfied.

Here are 29 specialties and the average compensation satisfaction for physicians:

Pulmonary medicine: 52 percent

Plastic surgery: 52 percent
Internal medicine: 51 percent
Gastroenterology: 51 percent
Physical medicine & rehabilitation: 50 percent
OB-GYN: 50 percent
