Orthopedic

The American Medical Association elected board-certified orthopedic surgeon Michael Suk, MD, to its Board of Trustees.

Dr. Suk has been part of the AMA for nearly 30 years. He is chief physician officer of Geisinger System Services and chairman of Geisinger's Musculoskeletal Institute and department of orthopedic surgery.

He has also served on the AMA Council of Medical Service and chaired the AMA's Resident and Fellow Section. Dr. Suk was the first medical student directly elected to the AMA Board of Trustees.

At Geisinger, Dr. Suk was a member of the team that developed a total joint lifetime warranty, thanks to the reliable, evidence-based methods they established to support the warranty.

He has also tackled physician burnout with resident work hour reform and posited ways to alleviate the burdens linked with EHRs.

Dr. Suk earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. He completed his residency at Montefiore Medical Center in The Bronx, N.Y., and a fellowship in orthopedic traumatology at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
