Biopharmaceutical company Vericel conducted a survey on chronic knee pain sufferers in the U.S., with some interesting findings.

The report, A Look At How Knee Pain Is Keeping Us On The Sidelines, surveyed 1,002 chronic knee pain sufferers in the U.S.

Five findings on chronic knee pain sufferers:

1. The survey found that 89 percent of people wished they could find a long-term solution to their pain. However, 64 percent have never sought treatment from a healthcare provider.

2. Seventy-four percent of people surveyed hoped their knee pain would resolve itself.

3. Prior to experiencing knee pain, 92 percent said they participated in sports and physical activities. After experiencing knee pain, 77 percent said they can no longer participate in at least one activity they previously enjoyed due to their pain.

4. Fifty-five percent of knee pain sufferers said their mobility is now worse than it was prior to experiencing knee pain.

5. A sizeable 77 percent of people surveyed said they forget what it's like to be pain free.
