Wilford Gibson, MD, chair of the AAOS Council on Advocacy, told Becker's that the AAOS is encouraged by the executive order and will be following closely how these directives influence prospective regulatory changes.
The AAOS strongly opposed legislation that would impose government-set payment benchmarks to address surprise medical bill disputes, saying it would threaten "the independent practice of medicine." AAOS President Kristy L. Weber, MD provided a statement on the matter on July 12.
