3 key updates from the AAOS this month

Orthopedic

Here are three key developments from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons this past month.

President Donald Trump issued an executive order intended to lower costs and help patients make informed decisions by increasing price transparency in healthcare. Wilford Gibson, MD, chair of the AAOS Council on Advocacy, told Becker's that the AAOS is encouraged by the executive order and will be following closely how these directives influence prospective regulatory changes.

The AAOS strongly opposed legislation that would impose government-set payment benchmarks to address surprise medical bill disputes, saying it would threaten "the independent practice of medicine." AAOS President Kristy L. Weber, MD provided a statement on the matter on July 12.

The AAOS collaborated with Health eCareers to create an enhanced career center for orthopedic surgeons. The new career center will provide over 500 job opportunities, job alerts and career advice for orthopedic surgeons.
