Drs. Thomas Graham, Damien Richardson & more: 9 orthopedic surgeons making the news

Here are nine orthopedic surgeons making headlines this week.

Kirk Reichard, MD, and Jonathan Keeve, MD, of Spokane, Wash.-based Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists will travel to Cuba to perform around 65 joint replacements for arthritis patients on Nov. 6. The mission is organized by Operation Walk, a nonprofit organization that provides free orthopedic surgeries for patients in developing countries.

Orthopedic surgeon Vincent Fowble, MD, performed Jupiter (Fla.) Medical Center's first total knee replacement surgery using robotic technology in October. The hospital acquired a Stryker Mako robotic-arm to assist surgeons with knee replacement procedures. Dr. Fowble joined the hospital in 2005 and specializes in total joint replacement of the hip and knee.

Ronald White, MD, received Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital's 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding service to the hospital and community on Oct. 22. Dr. White is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee reconstructive surgery and arthroscopic surgery of the knee.

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery welcomed sports medicine surgeon Theodore Blaine, MD, to its medical staff. Dr. Blaine specializes in minimally invasive shoulder and elbow surgery and is co-editor-in-chief and founder of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Arthroplasty. He is seeing patients at HSS Stamford, Conn.

Former NFL player Damien Richardson, MD, joined the medical staff of Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine, Calif. Dr. Richardson will practice at HOI affiliate Newport Orthopedic Institute in Newport Beach, Calif. He is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle treatments.

Thomas Graham, MD, a clinical professor in the department of orthopedic surgery and associate chief of the division of hand surgery at New York City-based NYU Langone Health, spoke to Becker's about the biggest issues and innovations in his specialty.

Rome (N.Y.) Medical Practice Orthopedics and Sports Medicine onboarded orthopedic surgeon Mark Moriarty, MD. Dr. Moriarty focuses on knee and shoulder arthroscopy procedures, sports medicine, trauma and adult reconstructive surgery of the hip, knee and shoulder.

Daniel Mandell, MD, joined Worcester, Mass.-based UMass Memorial Medical Group. Dr. Mandell is an orthopedic surgeon focusing on joint replacement, acute orthopedic trauma, arthritis and reconstructive surgery. He is seeing patients at UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus and at UMass Memorial Orthopedics in Westboro.
