Here are 13 orthopedic surgeons making headlines this week. 

Lyle Cain, MD, performed surgery on Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's right hip after he dislocated it during a Nov. 16 game. Dr. Cain, the team's orthopedic surgeon and a provider at Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Ala., said that Mr. Tagovailoa will miss the rest of the season but is expected to make a full recovery.

Jeffrey Dugas, MD, repaired the torn rotator cuff and labrum in WWE wrestler Yanbo Wang's shoulder. Dr. Dugas is an orthopedic surgeon at Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Ala. He serves as associate medical director for WWE and is on the National Concussion Task Force.

Four orthopedic foot and ankle surgeons — Daniel Farber, MD, Eric Gokcen, MD, Aaron Guyer, MD, and Ariel Palanca, MDperformed surgery on patients with lower extremity deformities in a medical mission in Kenya. The medical mission was an extension of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society Outreach Project to Vietnam, which provides aid to underserved parts of the country.

Orthopedic surgeons Siddhant Mehta, MD, PhD, and Stephen Rossman, DO, recently joined Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, N.J. Dr. Mehta specializes in minimally invasive, arthroscopic and open surgical techniques and Dr. Rossman specializes in treating arthritic conditions of the hip and knee joint.

Michelle Carlson, MD, repaired the right ring finger of Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner on Nov. 17. Dr. Carlson is an orthopedic surgeon at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery. She specializes in treating sports-related hand injuries and fractures, among others.

Orthopedic surgeon Jeffrey Ginther, MD, recently joined Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Ind. Dr. Ginther specializes in joint replacement of the hip and knee and has been in private practice for the past 22 years. He is seeing patients at Rush Memorial Hospital Specialists/Orthopedics.

Hope Orthopedics Oregon in Salem added Shane Jess, DO, to its group. Dr. Jess is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction of the hip and knee. He earned his doctorate of osteopathic medicine from Des Moines (Iowa) University — College of Osteopathic Medicine. He will begin practicing at Hope Orthopedics Oregon in December.

Jonesboro (Ark.) Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine recently added Ronald Sismondo Jr., MD, to its practice. Dr. Sismondo is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee ligament reconstruction, meniscus surgery, shoulder instability and Tommy John surgery.

Orthopedic surgeon Robert Beasley, MD, joined Lincoln Health System in Fayetteville, Tenn., and opened a new practice with the system on Nov. 18. Dr. Beasley provides the full spectrum of orthopedic care including total joint replacement of the hip and knee, fracture care, joint pain and arthritis management as well as sports medicine.
