Orthopedic surgeon William Hazel, MD, was appointed as senior deputy executive director of the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation, reports Loudoun Now.
The organization creates programs and partnerships to increase academic competence and encourage leadership abilities, with an emphasis on the underprivileged.
Dr. Hazel served for eight years as Virginia Secretary for Health and Human Resources, where he led the Virginia Health Reform Initiative and helped establish the Virginia Center for Health Innovation, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Previously he served as assistant orthopedic surgeon for the Washington Redskins and team physician for D.C. United.
Dr. Hazelis also a founding member and past-president of Commonwealth Orthopaedics in Reading, Pa.
He graduated from Duke University in Durham, N.C., before completing an orthopedic residency at Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic.
