Hoag Orthopedic Institute restarts some cases, 'willing to adjust' if conditions change

Orthopedic

After postponing all elective surgeries for nearly two months, Irvine, Calif.-based Hoag Orthopedic Institute is resuming certain elective cases starting May 1.

HOI is "slowly and carefully" proceeding with scheduled surgical procedures in accordance with federal, state and local guidance, as well as with guidance from industry groups, according to a May 1 announcement.

The practice will primarily reintroduce outpatient orthopedic procedures and procedures for low-risk patients. All patients will be required to undergo COVID-19 testing three days before surgery.

"HOI will proceed with the limited elective surgical procedures under a thoughtful and judicious protocol, monitoring the data daily and will be willing to adjust as necessary based on current conditions," the group's announcement said.

HOI is one of California's largest providers of hip and knee replacements. It operates a specialty hospital in Irvine, as well as four ASCs.
