Cynthia Kelly, MD, performed a complex surgery to remove a rare bone cancer in a patient's leg, according to a July 8 CBS Denver report.

Three things to know:

1. The slow-growing bone tumor, named osteosarcoma, was removed and the patient's leg was reconstructed. The procedure was performed at Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Denver.

2. As the tumor was wrapped around the artery and vein, vascular surgeon Barbara Melendez, MD, assisted in the procedure.

3. Dr. Kelly is an orthopedic oncology specialist and medical director of the osteonecrosis and sarcoma service lines at the Institute for Limb Preservation at Presbyterian St. Luke's.
