Orthopedic surgeon Eric Cornish, MD, retired July 10, according to The Alpena News.

He served patients in Alpena, Mich., for 24 years. His career in orthopedic surgery spanned more than 35 years.

Dr. Cornish plans to remain connected with Midland-based MidMichigan Health in retirement, filling in or consulting on complex cases as needed.

He will also remain involved in orthopedic research. Currently, he's collaborating on a research paper on the biomechanics of knee replacement.

Dr. Cornish was a "cornerstone" of the orthopedic program at MidMichigan Health, according to Chuck Sherwin, president of MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena.

"Dr. Cornish has done an outstanding job caring for so many members of our community," Mr. Sherwin told The Alpena News. "We are happy to have him stay on in a new capacity and to continue offering support to our team and patients."
