Becker's Spine Review has reported on two orthopedic hospital closures this year and two more that could soon close to make way for new facilities:
Grand Blanc, Mich.-based McLaren Health Care is closing its orthopedic hospital in Lansing, Mich., and plans to sell the property. The move will make way for a 262-bed replacement hospital in South Lansing. The new facility, set to open in late 2021, is part of a $600 million investment.
New Hanover Regional Medical Center plans to close its 75-bed orthopedic hospital in Wilmington, N.C., to open a $210 million hospital with 66 beds. If approved, the new hospital would open in 2024.
Overland Park, Kan.-based Pinnacle Regional Hospital, which specialized in spinal fusion procedures, closed in February. The hospital had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, but the added financial difficulties inflicted by the COVID-19 pandemic forced it to shutter permanently.
Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville, Mo., which also specialized in spine surgeries as part of Hollywood, Fla.-based Pinnacle Healthcare System, closed in January.
