Dr. Kumar Kadiyala named orthopedic surgery chief at New York hospital

NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital has appointed R. Kumar Kadiyala, MD, PhD, chief of orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Kumar Kadiyala joined NewYork-Presbyterian in 2013, serving as chief of orthopedic service at New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital in New York City, according to a Nov. 20 news release.

In his new role, he will establish a multidisciplinary sports medicine program providing care to athletes of all ages.

He will also expand the pediatric orthopedic surgery program to include cerebral palsy care, pediatric sports medicine and joint preservation.

Dr. Kadiyala's clinical focus is on the treatment of chronic conditions and musculoskeletal injuries of the hand, elbow, shoulder and peripheral nerve.

He earned his MD and PhD degrees at Stanford (Calif.) University's medical scientist training program and completed a fellowship in orthopedic trauma and hand/upper extremity surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham & Women's Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital.
