Zebra Medical received its seventh FDA clearance, this time for artificial intelligence technology to pull bone measurements from X-ray scans for planning orthopedic surgery, according to a Dec. 8 press release.
The AI can take the measurements without needing a CT scan or MRI, the release said. Zebra Med's technology also addresses logistical problems caused by unnecessary implants being delivered to each surgery.
"The ability to determine implant size cost-effectively (without CT or MRI) will enhance preoperative surgical planning," total joint replacement expert Charles Lim, MD, said in the release. "This technology can particularly help with less common implant sizes (small or large) and for implant inventory management."
