Mark Getelman, MD, of Van Nuys, Calif.-based Southern California Orthopedic Institute, was named the Arthroscopy Association of North America president for 2021-2022.

Dr. Getelman was previously the organization's second vice president and was named to that role in 2019. He started his term as president in April, according to a May 4 news release from Southern California Orthopedic Institute.

He's a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in arthroscopic and minimally invasive shoulder and knee surgery. He received his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Boston University Medical Center.

Dr. Getelman has been an active member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America for more than 20 years. He served on the executive committee, education committee and was chair of the fellowship and development committees.

"Our organization is the global leader in arthroscopy and advancing minimally invasive surgical education, advocacy and skills assessment to improve patient care, " he said. "I am looking forward to this year leading the future of arthroscopic surgery and excited to help surgeons, health care providers and patients in the process."
