Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine has appointed Michelle Caird, MD, chair of its orthopedic surgery department, effective May 1.
Dr. Caird has served as interim chair since May 2019 and has been a member of the faculty since 2004.
In 2015, she was appointed director of the orthopedic residency program and associate chair for education in the orthopedic surgery department.
Idiopathic and congenital scoliosis, pediatric hip conditions and lower extremity deformities are among her areas of expertise.
"I feel a deep sense of duty and responsibility to this department, for our school and for all other women who are interested in the field of orthopedic surgery," Dr. Caird said in a May 21 news release. "I will continue working hard to foster a culture of respect, diversity and mentorship, so everyone can succeed in providing innovative care to our patients."
