5 CEO moves at orthopedic groups

Since the beginning of the year, Becker's has reported on five CEO moves at orthopedic practices:

1. Mark Vorherr will become CEO of Cincinnati-based Mayfield Brain & Spine, a 19-surgeon practice, on July 19. Mr. Vorherr is currently president and COO of Columbus, Ohio-based Mount Carmel Medical Group and previously served as vice president at Mercy Health Cincinnati.

2. Christopher Olivia, MD, was named CEO of Philadelphia-based Rothman Orthopaedic Institute in April, replacing Michael West, who held the role since 1999. Dr. Olivia has been CEO of six health-related companies and has expertise creating value-based financing and ambulatory clinical delivery models. 

3. OrthoBethesda, a 14-surgeon group in Maryland, named Emil Engels, MD, CEO in January. Dr. Engels has more than 20 years of leadership experience, previously serving as president of the northeast market at Mednax, a physician-led medical group in Sunrise, Fla.

4. Joe DiPaolo was named CEO of The Orthopedic Institute of New Jersey in January. Mr. DiPaolo has served as president of Atlantic Health System's western New Jersey region and CEO of the system's Newton Medical Center in Sussex, N.J. 

5. Morristown, N.J.-based Altair Health, a physician-managed health system focused on spine care, appointed Mark Farrington CEO in January. For the past decade, Mr. Farrington served as CEO of Mayfield Brain & Spine.
