OptumCare, UNLV orthopedic residency graduates 1st class

Orthopedic

The first class of orthopedic surgeons graduated from the joint residency program developed by the University of Nevada Las Vegas Medical School and OptumCare Orthopaedics and Spine, according to a report from 3 News, an NBC affiliate.

The residency program was the brainchild of Michael Daubs, MD, who graduated from UNLV's medical school before it had an orthopedic program. He planned to return and build an orthopedic residency, which he was able to do in recent years.

"You're pretty lucky in life when you have a chance to come back and fulfill your dream," he told 3 News.

The first class of orthopedic residents graduated in June, and two surgeons plan to continue practicing in Las Vegas.

Dr. Daubs is the chair of orthopedics at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV and medical director of OptumCare Orthopaedics & Spine in Las Vegas.
