The site of a historic San Francisco theater is slated to house an orthopedic practice.
James Chen, MD, unveiled his plans for the center, which includes two operating rooms, a procedure room and 3,700 square feet of medical offices, Bay Area Reporter reported Aug. 18. Dr. Chen purchased the building for $2.7 million.
Eliot Dobris, Dr. Chen's communications consultant, told the newspaper that there hasn't been opposition to the plans. The theater, which operated from 1968 to 2018, is a landmark within the LGBTQ community, and the building will retain its red sign, facade and auditorium.
Dr. Chen currently operates Advanced Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in San Francisco.
