Orthopedic residency at Kansas City University moving to HCA Midwest Health

Missouri's largest medical school, Kansas City University, is shifting its orthopedic residency program to Research Medical Center, one of HCA Midwest Health's family of hospitals in the region.

The KCU-Graduate Medical Education Consortium will continue to serve as the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the sponsoring institution that ultimately controls the program, according to an Aug. 19 news release.

Moving the residency program to Research Medical Center, "which will serve as the primary teaching site, allows the residents to expand their clinical experiences at a level 1 trauma center and gain more exposure to unique cases," said Kerrie Jordan, designated institutional official for the KCU-GME Consortium.

Through the partnership, Orthopedic and Surgeons Inc., an 11-physician practice in Kansas City, will join Research Medical Center, open a new clinic on the campus and provide leadership and oversight of the orthopedic residency program.

Research Medical Center's "passion" for its "mission" matches "our unwavering commitment to excellence in innovative orthopedic patient care," and is what attracted Orthopedic and Surgeons Inc. to the hospital, according to Robert Paul, DO, the group's president.
