Erik McDonald, MD, became New Haven, Conn.-based Yale University's first total joint fellow, according to a Sept. 28 announcement.
He received his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. In 2020, he was awarded the school's Teaching Excellence Award for Cherished Housestaff.
As a fellow, he will be involved with clinical care, teaching and research within the department of orthopedics and rehabilitation.
"I'm excited to be the first fellow and hopefully can live up to the Yale standard and start a legacy of a well-respected fellowship," Dr. McDonald said. "I wanted to pursue a path in adult reconstruction because I loved how predictable and good the outcomes are for patients."
