Burt Yaszay, MD, is the new chief of orthopedics and sports medicine at Seattle Children's hospital.

Dr. Yaszay plans to focus on three areas in his new role: clinical care, research and education, according to a Jan. 10 news release. He said he hopes to serve as a mentor to other surgeons and lead research at the hospital.

"I want to create an environment where we are collaborative and open," Dr. Yaszy said in the release. "Even if I meet with a family and I have to tell them I’ve never seen this before, I know who has, and together we can figure it out."

He earned his medical degree at Stanford (Calif.) University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Washington in Seattle. Before coming to Seattle Children's, he spent 14 years at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.
