$210M orthopedic hospital to break ground in North Carolina

Orthopedic

Charlotte-based Novant Health and New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C., will break ground on a $210 million orthopedic hospital this spring, Wilmington StarNews reported Feb. 1.

Scotts Hill Community Hospital will comprise 66 beds, eight operating rooms and focus on orthopedic services and general surgery, among other services.

Plans for the hospital have been years in the making. In February 2021, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services denied the application, saying the hospital did not adequately make its case for the additional beds. However, the state approved the application after the medical center filed an appeal.

Scotts Hill Community Hospital will build onto NHRMC's emergency department. Thirty-six of the hospital's 66 beds will be relocated from NHRMC's orthopedic hospital campus, which is set to end inpatient services when the new hospital opens in 2024.

NHRMC was a county-owned hospital that Novant Health purchased in February 2021.
