Formus Labs raises $5M, lands Zimmer Biomet partnership for orthopedic surgery planner

Orthopedic

Orthopedic software company Formus Labs has raised $5 million for its automated orthopedic surgery planner and is partnering with Zimmer Biomet for the product's global launch, the company said Feb. 2.

The Formus platform is the world's first automated 3D planner for joint replacement surgeries. The platform uses artificial intelligence and biomechanics to produce interactive 3D models to help surgeons pinpoint the size and orientation required for each patient. It also allows surgeons to work on cases remotely.

The company said it will use the funds to drive product development and expansion in the U.S.

The company partnered with Zimmer Biomet on development and commercialization of its Formus Hip product in Australia and New Zealand, as well as research into other areas for expansion.

Formus Labs said it will launch Formus Hip in Australia and New Zealand this month and expects FDA approval later this year.
