Henry Ford Health Systems completes 2nd total wrist replacement

Orthopedic

Charles Day, MD, performed Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System's second total wrist replacement, NBC affiliate WILX reported Feb. 15.

The patient, Susan Cooper, had worn a brace and had almost no range of motion from rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Day operated on her Dec. 14, and she is recovering with almost full range of motion and no pain, the report said. The surgery replaced two joints in her wrist and removed a few bones that were causing pain.

"[Dr. Cooper] has literally given me my life back," Ms. Cooper told the station. "Even eating was difficult to do that final little twist on your wrist. I couldn’t do that."

The first total wrist replacement at Henry Ford Health Systems was completed in May.
