Fort Myers, Fla.-based Gardner Orthopedics and Shalby Advanced Technologies, a division of Shalby Hospitals in Ahmedabad, India, have partnered to create Centers of Excellence at 11 multispecialty hospitals in India and form Shalby Orthopedic Centres of Excellence in Fort Myers and across India.

The initiative will:

- Conduct seminars for medical and engineering professionals to strengthen knowledge transfer between India and the U.S.
- Create short-term traveling fellowships between the countries for experience in healthcare delivery systems
- Develop training tools to improve the technical aspects of advanced orthopedic surgery
- Collect patient data from high-volume surgery centers in both countries to improve outcomes

"This collaboration will lead to reproducible high-quality and improved outcomes in our joint replacement patient population in the U.S. and India through the exchange of orthopedic research and technology," Ronald Gardner, MD, CEO of Gardner Orthopedics, said in a March 25 news release.
