ASCs, Centers of Excellence and more: 6 orthopedic partnerships in the past month

Two joint venture surgery centers and an international Centers of Excellence program were among the orthopedic partnerships making headlines in March.

Six partnerships to know:

1. Fort Myers, Fla.-based Gardner Orthopedics and Shalby Advanced Technologies, a division of Shalby Hospitals in Ahmedabad, India, teamed up to create Centers of Excellence at 11 multispecialty hospitals in India and form Shalby Orthopedic Centers of Excellence in Fort Myers and across India.

2. James Andrews, MD, and Jefferson, La.-based Ochsner Health inked a five-year partnership to create The Ochsner Andrews Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Institute. Dr. Andrews will integrate his newly launched Andrews Medicine platform with Ochsner, provide guidance on programs and share clinical best practices and engage in research and professional development initiatives.

3. Tallahassee (Fla.) Orthopedic Clinic affiliated with Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley to expand access to orthopedic services. Beginning May 2, a team of TOC physicians will be available at the hospital campus every Monday. The 31-physician orthopedic group will expand its operating hours and establish a larger presence at the hospital if the demand materializes.

4. Texas Health Hospital Mansfield is partnering with three private practices to increase access to orthopedic care in the community. The partnership will connect patients to physicians, labs, physical therapy, imaging services and education minutes from the hospital.

5. Dulles, Va.-based StoneSprings Hospital Center opened an orthopedic ASC in Sterling, Va. The $6.8 million, 18,630-square-foot facility surgery center is a joint venture with 16 physician partners. It offers surgical services for general orthopedics, total joint replacement and spinal procedures. 

6. Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare and Portsmouth, N.H.-based Atlantic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine opened an ASC in Portsmouth. Eight physician partners at Atlantic Orthopaedics have partial ownership in the ASC, which is affiliated with Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
