Alaska orthopedic surgeon to run for US House

Orthopedic

Alaskan orthopedic surgeon Al Gross, MD, on March 28 announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives, according to The Anchorage Press.

The announcement comes after the death of Republican Rep. Don Young, Alaska's longest-serving member of Congress.

Dr. Gross' campaign said  he would file on April 1 to run as a candidate to finish Mr. Young's remaining term and to seek a two-year term.

The surgeon, who is running as an independent, is the first person to officially declare his candidacy, but several others are reported to be considering a run, including former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, according to the Press.
