Here are 10 physicians performing orthopedic surgery:

1. Adam Bitterman, DO. Huntington (N.Y.) Hospital. Dr. Bitterman specializes in foot and ankle surgery. He was recently named chair of the orthopedics department at Huntington Hospital. He is also an assistant professor of orthopedics at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in New York City. 

2. Steve Haas, MD. Hospital for Special Surgery (New York City). Dr. Haas is chief of the knee service at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He speaks nationally and internationally on knee topics and has authored more than 100 publications. He has received several patents for innovative knee implant designs and also received a patent for developing a surgical technique for performing minimally invasive knee replacement that allows patients to recover more rapidly. 

3. David Holden, MD. McBride Orthopedic Hospital (Oklahoma City). Dr. Holden specializes in knee, hip and sports medicine procedures. He was recently elected president of the Oklahoma State Medical Association for the second time. He is also past president of the Oklahoma County Medical Society.

4. Ky Kobayashi, MD. Colorado Center of Orthopaedic Excellence (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Dr. Kobayashi specializes in conditions affecting the hand and upper extremities.  He is an assistant professor of surgery at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md. He has served on the board of specialties for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons for education. He is currently a consultant for the Olympic Training Center.

5. Alan MacGill, DPM. Spine & Orthopedic Center (Boca Raton, Fla.). Dr. MacGill is a podiatric surgeon specializing in foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery. He was recently added to the board of trustees at HCA Florida Northwest Hospital in Margate, where he also serves as director for the podiatric medicine and surgery residency program. He is also a member of the board of directors for the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

6. Steven Mardjetko, MD. Illinois Bone & Joint Institute (Des Plaines). Dr. Mardjetko regularly attends medical society meetings to teach about spinal surgery to fellow surgeons and has helped develop techniques for the surgical management of Down Syndrome patients with complex cervical spine conditions. He is currently researching the effectiveness of spinal stabilization instruments, spinal fixation techniques and the use of spinal fusion materials. He was recently elected to the Illinois State Medical Society Board of Trustees.

7. Alexander Meininger, MD. Steamboat Orthopaedic & Spine Institute (Steamboat Springs, Colo.). Dr. Meininger has been a managing partner at Steamboat Orthopedic since 2018. He recently debuted the bridge-enhanced anterior cruciate ligament repair procedure in Colorado and will be giving a commencement speech at his alma mater, the University of Colorado in Boulder, this spring.

8. Anthony Melillo, MD. Bay Oaks Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine (Houston). Dr. Melillo founded Bay Oaks Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in 2000. He is one of several surgeons in the Clear Lake area performing Mako robotic surgery for partial knee resurfacing, total knee and total hip replacements. 

9. Marc Philippon, MD. The Steadman Clinic (Vail, Colo.). Dr. Philippon is a managing partner at the Steadman Clinic. He is also co-chair and co-director of the sports medicine fellowship at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colo. In 2012, he received an achievement award from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons in recognition of his contributions to the orthopedic surgery field. 

10. Leslie Sisco-Wise, MD. Ochsner Health (New Orleans). Dr. Sisco-Wise is head of hand surgery for Ochsner Health and director of the Hand and Upper Extremity Center for Ochsner Baptist in New Orleans. She was recently named the first vice president of the Louisiana Orthopaedic Association in March and will become the organization's president next year, making her the first woman to do so.
