California orthopedic surgeon to get lifetime achievement award

Orthopedic surgeon Stephen Snyder, MD, will be awarded the Arthroscopy Association of North America's lifetime achievement award at the organization's annual meeting in San Francisco on May 19.

The award honors members who have provided extraordinary contributions to the association and minimally invasive surgery through education, service, advocacy publications and research.

Dr. Snyder, who practices with the Southern California Orthopedic Institute in Los Angeles, is being recognized for his contributions to shoulder surgery. His partnerships with various device companies helped develop more than 50 surgical tools and products that have advanced patient outcomes, the association said in a May 16 news release.

Dr. Snyder was the first coordinator of the shoulder arthroscopy section and served on several association committees and on the association's board of directors. To honor his service, the organization has named the award presented annually to the best instructor at an association lab course for Dr. Snyder.

"Dr. Snyder possesses all of the qualifications that a recipient of such a prestigious award should have and then some," association CEO Laura Downes said. "Not only are his contributions to AANA countless, but his desire for advancing the organization, and consequently the scope of practice, are admirable."
