Novel ACL procedure debuted in Portland region

Nancy Yen Shipley, MD, debuted the Bear anterior cruciate ligament implant in the Portland, Ore., region, NBC affiliate KGW reported June 16.

The Bear implant is relatively new, with many surgeons implementing it in their practices in the last year. It takes what is left of a person's own ACL and attaches it to a graft, allowing the patient's body to heal itself, according to the report.

Dr. Yen Shipley has practiced as an orthopedic surgeon in Portland for more than 11 years. She works with Multnomah Orthopedic Clinic.
