Cyna Khalily, MD, an orthopedic surgeon in Louisville, Ky., completed the first robot-assisted surgery with Smith+Nephew's Legion Conceloc cementless total knee system.
The Legion Conceloc is designed to provide immediate rotational stability, and its 3D-printed structure encourages biological ingrowth, according to a June 30 news release. Smith+Nephew is the only devicemaker to offer total and partial cementless knee implants and a robotic-assisted system for cementless total knee replacements, with the CORI Surgical System.
"The accuracy of precision milling, combined with the tactile feel of the press-fit and initial stability of the Conceloc porous structure during implantation, are going to give surgeons the confidence to perform cementless total knee procedures," Dr. Khalily said in the release.
