Denver-based Orthopedic Centers of Colorado added Zimmer Biomet's Persona IQ smart knee implant, CBS Colorado reported July 5.

Chief Medical Officer Brian Larkin, MD, performed the first smart knee replacement in the state, the report said. The implant has a battery life of 10 years and sensors that monitor range of motion, walking speed, stride length, number of steps and distance walked. He and his patient are using an app to monitor data as she recovers from surgery.

Persona IQ debuted in October at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery.
