The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine unveiled a sculpture of Freddie Fu, MD, in the lobby of the Freddie Fu Sports Medicine Center, according to an Oct. 7 news release.
Dr. Fu formed UPMC's sports medicine program and served as chair of the orthopedic department — a role he held for 24 years. The sports medicine program he founded grew into one of the largest clinical and research programs in the world.
He also developed one of the most diverse academic and clinical departments in the U.S.
Dr. Fu died in 2021, and in September, MaCalus Hogan was named UPMC's new head of orthopedics.
