Dr. Alexander Hersel: Epidural Steroid Injections Still Safe for Back Pain

Pain Management

Dr. Alexander HenselAlexander P. Hersel, MD, medical director of Pain Management and Injury Relief Medical Center, recently released an article ensuring patients that epidural steroid injections are still a safe treatment despite the recent outbreak of meningitis tied to the New England Compounding Center in Framingham, Mass. Dr. Hersel discusses the clinical and economic impact of patients living with pain and cites published studies showing patients can avoid surgery in some cases by undergoing epidural steroid injection treatment.

"The safety of our patients is our number one priority," said Dr. Hersel in the release. "Our goal is to inform the public that this procedure has been, and remains, safe and effective for treating chronic back pain, and the outbreak is not reflective of a physician's expertise as a pain management specialist."
