Hannibal (Mo.) Regional Medical Group has announced that it is offering its patients the new Medtronic AdaptiveStim with RestoreSensor neurostimulation system, which is the first pain treatment system that leverages motion sensor technology found in consumer electronics such as smartphones and computer gaming systems to provide pain relief.
The system consists of an implantable device, similar to a pacemaker. It helps treat chronic back and leg pain by recognizing and remembering the correlation between a change in body position and the level of stimulation needed. It also records and stores the frequency of posture changes providing physicians with feedback.
