6 notes on Austin Pain Associates' new executive leadership

Austin Pain Associates, the leader in pain management in central Texas, recently appointed Thomas D. Johnston, JD, and Twyla Fuertes executive leadership positions, according to Digital Journal.

Here are six things to know:

 

1. Mr. Johnston was appointed CEO. He has more than 28 years of healthcare executive experience in operations, strategy, leadership, business development and marketing.

 

2. Mr. Johnston has a background as a physician group and hospital group practice leader, business developer and national healthcare consultant making him the prime candidate to fulfill the CEO position.

 

3. Prior to joining the APA team, Mr. Johnston was CEO of EmployerDirect Healthcare, a value-based healthcare company for large employers with self-funded medical plans. He additionally was vice president of Paragon Health, a director at Navigant Consulting's Healthcare Division and CEO of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeons.


 
4. Twyla Fuertes was appointed chief business officer and will join APA's Executive Leadership Team. She has over 23 years of experience in medical practice development, consulting and business management.

 

5. Ms. Fuertes previously served as the chief business officer for Texas Orthopedics, Sports and Rehabilitation Associates in Austin for 18 years. She served as a speaker for Experian Healthcare as well as the Division of Workers' Compensation's annual conferences.

 

6. Mr. Johnston and Ms. Fuertes will join APA's Executive leadership team including team members Robert P. Will, MD, founder and president, and Brannon R. Frank, MD, medical director.
