The Advanced Medical Technology Association released a study on pricing trends for medical implants, and the data show averages prices have declined significantly from 2007 to 2011. Researchers attribute the drop to an intensely competitive market for medical technology.
The following categories of devices saw price declines:
• Drug-eluting stents — 34 percent
• Artificial hips — 23 percent
• Artificial knees — 17 percent
• Implantable defibrillators — 24 percent
• Bare metal stents — 27 percent
