Becker's Spine Review reported the following orthopedic and spine device company executive moves so far in 2019:

Smith+Nephew CEO Namal Nawana will step down as part of a "mutual decision" to pursue other opportunities, according to a statement from the company. Mr. Nawana will remain on the board until Oct. 31 and provide advice and assistance to his successor, Roland Diggelmann, through the end of the year.

ChoiceSpine promoted KC Gilbert to senior vice president of strategic partnerships and hired two executives: Keith Clements as vice president of sales and Ron Moore as senior director of marketing.

Xtant Medical named Sean Browne president and CEO.

Zimmer Biomet brought Carrie Nichol on board to serve as the company's vice president, controller and chief accounting officer.

Biotechnology company CuraSen Therapeutics appointed Peter Butera as senior vice president of operations.

Brent W. Johnston was named president of Milestone Scientific, a developer of computerized drug instruments.

Ozop Surgical Corp. brought Nick Ansari on board as its executive vice president of sales and marketing.

Medtronic Chairman and CEO Omar Ishrak plans to retire as CEO at the end of the 2020 fiscal year.

Alphatec appointed three new executives as it seeks to boost sales in the western market. Eric Dasso joined as executive vice president of adjunctive technologies, Wyatt Stanfield as area vice president of sales for the west, and Timothy Day as territory development manager for the northeast.

Stryker expanded the roles of two of its employees after Stuart Simpson, president of joint replacement, left the company. The company appointed Spencer Stiles to serve as group president of orthopedics and spine. The company concurrently expanded J. Andrew Pierce's role as president of medsurg and neurotechology to include overseeing the company's instruments, medical, endoscopy, sustainability and neurotechnology businesses.

Minimally invasive spinal device company Vertos Medical found its next vice president of sales in Stephen E. Paul.

Orthofix named Jon Serbousek president of global spine on an interim basis before he replaces the retiring Brad Mason as CEO of the company on Nov. 1.

Chief scientific officer of Aptinyx Joseph Moskal, PhD, retired from his role Aug. 1.

Ben Walthall, PhD, a former research and development worldwide director for Johnson & Johnson, was appointed to RenovaCare's advisory board.

James Loerop was appointed executive vice president of business development and strategic planning, a newly created position at Anika Therapeutics.

Globus Medical installed Keith Pfeil as senior vice president and CFO, effective Aug. 19.

Alphatec appointed Karen McGinnis — who has over 20 years of experience in operational and finance roles — to its board of directors.

Integra LifeSciences promoted Glenn Coleman to COO and named Carrie Anderson CFO.

Orthopedic and sports medicine technology company Ortho Regenerative Technologies appointed Pierre Laurin to its board of directors June 20. Ortho RTi CEO Claude LeDuc, who was appointed CEO June 17, was also appointed to the company's board of directors.

Zimmer Biomet appointed Suketu Upadhyay to replace retiring CFO Daniel Florin.

Former Johnson & Johnson executive Max Reinhardt joined Pacira as president.

Conventus Orthopaedics, a company focused on orthopedic fracture treatment, named Rick Epstein CEO.

After uncovering that former executives had spied on employees to discredit whistleblowers, MiMedx Group announced several changes to its board, including the appointment of new CEO Tim Wright.

Medtronic's senior director of corporate communications, Fernando Vivanco, left the company because his position was reportedly eliminated as part of a corporate restructuring.

Three former executives of Laser Spine Institute of Tampa, Fla., joined medical device company H-CYTE, also based in Tampa. H-CYTE appointed Briley Cienkosz as chief marketing officer, Ann Miller as COO and Gary Mancini as chief relationship officer. All worked at Laser Spine Institute before they transitioned into other roles with Regenerative Medicine Solutions, specifically at Lung Health Institute.

H-CYTE also made a fourth appointment. Jeremy Daniel, who comes from Regenerative Medicine Solutions, was named CFO.

Brian Rice joined Cardinal Health as its executive vice president, CIO and customer support services leader in February.

Affinity Capital Management President Kris Johnson joined ExplORer Surgical's board of directors. She worked at Medtronic for 17 years, most recently serving as senior vice president and chief administrative officer.

Miach Orthopaedics hired Michael O'Hara as vice president of quality assurance and Rita Paparazzo as senior director of clinical operations. The company also welcomed Martha Shadan as president and CEO earlier in the year.

Donald Bray joined Sintx Technologies as new vice president of business development after a tenure at Morgan Advanced Materials.

Spine surgery solutions provider Alphatec Holdings promoted David Sponsel to executive vice president of sales.

Former Allergan CIO Sean Lennon succeeded Mike Hedges as Medtronic's CIO. Mr. Hedges stepped down as CIO after 10 years in the position and nearly two decades at Medtronic.

Medtronic appointed Andrea Goldsmith, PhD, to serve as an independent director.

Rob Fletcher was named Stryker's vice president and chief legal officer, replacing Mike Hutchinson, who became an adviser to the CEO.

Centinel Spine appointed Dirk Kuyper and Gregory Rainey to its board of directors.

Ryan Dickinson is Camber Spine's new vice president of sales and new business development.

Steve Saviuk will lead the Ortho Regenerative Technologies board of directors as chairman, a position vacated by President and CEO Brent Norton, MD.

Olympus Medical Systems Group's former president Todd Usen was named the first CEO of Activ Surgical.

Misonix appointed Sharon Klugewicz as COO.

SeaSpine Holdings added Kim Commins-Tzoumakas and Renee Gaeta to its board of directors Feb. 19, after Cheryl Blanchard, PhD, announced she would resign May 30.

Carl O'Connell became CEO of medical device company McGinley Orthopedics.

Xtant Medical appointed Ronald Berlin vice president and COO, effective Jan. 1. Later in the year, the company appointed five new senior sales leaders: Dana Lyons as vice president of U.S. sales; Jamey Rottman as Mid-Atlantic Region vice president of sales; Chris Cochran as South East Region vice president of sales; John Eekhof as North East Region vice president of sales; and Luke Armand as West Region vice president of sales.

Corin Group named Andy McLeod president of Corin USA.

Spinal Elements elected Steve Healy to serve as chairman of the board of directors, effective Jan. 1. Previously, Mr. Healy served as general manager of Zimmer Biomet as well as president of Zimmer Spine.

NuVasive appointed Matt Link as president; Raj Asarpota as executive vice president and CFO; Nate Sisitsky as general counsel and corporate secretary; Jim Garrett as chief compliance officer and leader of Global Risk and Integrity; Lucas Vitale as chief human resources officer; Suzanne Hatcher as vice president of internal and external affairs; and lastly, Dale Wolf as vice president of manufacturing.
