Medtronic in Q1 2022: 7 developments

From new acquisitions to new leadership, here are seven developments from Medtronic in the first quarter of 2022:

1. Medtronic on Jan. 6 issued a Class I recall of its Synergy Cranial and StealthStation S7 Cranial software.

2. Medtronic announced plans Jan. 10 to acquire Affera, a company that focuses on cardiac mapping and navigation. The deal is expected to close later in 2022.

3. Medtronic's Intellis rechargeable neurostimulator and Vanta recharge-free neurostimulator were approved by the FDA for treating chronic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

4. Toronto-based Titan Medical received an $8.3 million payment from Medtronic for hitting the final milestone under their development and license agreement and has retired the senior secured loan from the medtech giant.

5. Medtronic posted its quarterly results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2022 on Feb. 22. During that time, it saw revenue increases in its spine business.

6. Medtronic is allowing spine devicemaker Autocam Medical to lease its space in Warsaw, Ind.

7. Medical devicemaker Medtronic named Mike Marinaro its operating unit president for surgical robotics, the company said March 17.
