Smallest posterior spinal fixation implant gets FDA approval

Spinal Tech

SurgGenTec's Ion implant received FDA clearance, the devicemaker said March 1.

Smaller than a dime, Ion is the smallest posterior fixation implant cleared for spine surgery, according to a news release. It is designed to be used through C2-S1 in the spine.

"Patients are looking for options outside traditional bulky metallic devices such as pedicle screws and interspinous plates," Travis Greenhalgh, SurgGenTec's founder and CEO, said in the release. "This minimally invasive option provides excellent fixation with zero profile. It’s a non-intimidating solution for patients that need to undergo a spine surgery procedure."
