Roger Hartl, MD, is an associated professor of neurological surgery and chief of spine surgery and neurotrauma at the Brain and Spine Center at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. He is the Leonard and Fleur Harlan Clinical Scholar in Neurological Surgery. 
His clinical interests including simple and complex spine surgery, minimally invasive spinal surgery, neurotrauma and neurocritical care. He emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to care, and works closely with other specialists such as neurologists, pain specialists and physical therapists.
He is currently working with tissue-engineering techniques for the repair and regeneration of degenerated spinal discs.
Dr. Hartl received his medical degree from the Ludwig-Maximillians University in Munich, Germany. He completed a research fellowship in the department of surgery and the Brain Trauma Foundation at Weill Cornell Medical School. His research focused on traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries. He completed another fellowship in neurocritical care at the Charite Hospital of the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany, followed by a surgical internship and residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Dr. Hartl then completed his neurosurgery residency at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center before pursing training in complex spine surgery at Barrow's Neurological Institute in Phoenix.
