Morgan P. Lorio, MD, established Neuro-Spine Solutions in Bristol, Tenn., along with John Testerman, MD. He also serves as an assistant clinical professor at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. He is a member of the North American Spine Society, Simmons Surgical Society, American Society for Surgery of the Hand and Orthopedic Trauma Association. He also serves as a consultant for Exactech Corp.'s Opteform, a thermoplastic polymer that is mixed with allograft to create a bone filler.
Dr. Lorio's clinical interests include cervical herniated discs, hand surgery, lumbar degenerative disc disease and lumbar spinal stenosis. He is the official spokesperson for The Spine Health Foundation, which aims at providing surgical and non-surgical spine care to people in the United States who are uninsured and underinsured.
"The future of spine depends first on econometric value," said Dr. Lorio in a Becker's Spine Review article. "Economic benefit evidence will drive carriers (who hold the purse strings) to direct the future of leadership in spine. Spine societies must accommodate the paradigm shift in spine with absolute transparency with their constituent members in the trenches. Surgeons must be apprised as to what criteria are required for approval to achieve prompt, efficient point of service, the business of spine."
Dr. Lorio earned his medical degree at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at State University of New York at Buffalo. He has completed a hand and microsurgery fellowship at The Hand Center of Western New York in Buffalo as well as the Simmons Spine Fellowship and a clinical practice fellowship with Hanson Yuan, MD, at the Health Science Center Syracuse (N.Y.).
