Walter Carlson, MD, is a spine surgeon with the Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Orthopedic Institute.
Dr. Carlson specializes in spine surgery and total joint replacement with a subspecialty in pediatric orthopedics.
His career began after he earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic and a fellowship at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas.
Dr. Carlson is the vice president of the State Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners. He was appointed to serve on the board by South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard.
Dr. Carlson was raised on an Indian reservation in Northern Minnesota. He has spent the last 30 years in Sioux Falls.
